Steve Reeves takes centre stage in Serge Koussevitsky’s passionate Double Bass Concerto, a rare and compelling work that transforms the orchestra’s deepest voice into a singing, virtuosic instrument. The program opens with the graceful charm and spirited energy of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s Overture in C, highlighting the composer’s brilliant orchestral imagination and radiant Classical style.
