Concert Pianist Virtuoso William Schmidt brings a program of evocative nature-themed miniatures by Edvard Grieg, Lili Boulanger, Cecile Chaminade and Miriam Hyde, Beethoven’s uplifting “Pastoral” Sonata in D Op. 28, several beautiful songs by Schubert and Mikhail Glinka in pianistic arrangements by Liszt and Mily Balakirev respectively, and a new composition and two new song transcriptions by William himself. His career began with Australian band The Groop in 1966 and wrote hits including Woman You’re Breaking Me and Such A Lovely Way. He then formed Axiom, dubbed Australia’s first supergroup, he penned hits Little Ray of Sunshine, Arkansas Grass and My Baby’s Gone. Brian has received gold and platinum records and awards for film scores and TV themes His many hits include Ginger Man, Let Go, Don’t You Know It’s Magic and Alvin Purple.Brian is still playing to huge audiences nationwide. In 2007 he was inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame; in the same year he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2018 he was awarded an Order of Australia (AM).
