A documentary film on the life and art of Keith Looby
Join us for 'LOOBY', a documentary on acclaimed and controversial painter Keith Looby, followed by a Q&A with a co-producer of the film.
Looby premiered at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival and (pre-COVID19) went on to packed screenings at the National Art School, Sydney; Canberra Museum and Gallery; and the Queen Victoria Museum and Gallery, Launceston.
The Archibald Prize always creates much discussion about portraiture; Looby adds personality and politics to the mix. Among other things, the film delves into the painter's focus on Indigenous history and trauma at a time when Australian institutions were of a "history began with the First Fleet" mindset. These and other resonant threads are weaved together in a tight 80-minute feature.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the producers.
Please note: All profits from the tickets sold will go to the Friends of the Gallery.
